A major Hong Kong broadcaster has aired a TV show with some black-faced characters, just months after he was accused of racism for putting an actor in a brown face.
Blackface is considered highly offensive and racist in many parts of the world - especially in North America - but many complexions-
Dark controversies have surfaced across Asian entertainment in recent years.
In an episode of the sitcom 'Come Home Love' that aired on Monday, a scene showed a funeral service mimicking the dancing Ghanaian casket bearers that went viral on social media a few years ago.
Except for the cast in the show on TVB -
Hong Kong's biggest free TV announcer - their faces were painted black.
TVB said, on Wednesday, that the characters "weared special makeup" for a "dramatic story", and that "their faces were contaminated by car exhaust gas."
"It was never our intention to show disrespect or discrimination (against) anyone."
The channel did not offer an apology in its statement.
Nor did he explain why this story was related to the dancing Ghanaian coffin campaigners, who are black, and why the black face was needed to play on the meme.
There was no response on social media or widespread criticism in Hong Kong over the episode.

TVB broadcast a series in which the actors darkened their skin to portray people from the Philippines.
This caused outrage, particularly in the city's large Filipino community, and TVB apologized.
Then too, there was no wave of criticism domestically, and the series got positive reviews without discussing race.
"Imitation or disguise cannot and should not automatically be met with ridicule, ridicule or discrimination," the Hong Kong government's Equal Opportunity Commission told AFP.
"Having said that, producers and artists should pay attention to sensitive social issues so that they are not seen as irresponsible," the committee added.
Similar disagreements arose in other Asian countries.
Last year, the Malaysian pop star apologized for using a dark-colored woman in a music video that promoted a skin-lightening product.
Singapore's state broadcaster apologized in 2019 for an advertisement featuring a dark-skinned actor of Chinese origin.
