Indian-Canadians Celebrate Diwali On Cruise In Toronto

Thousands of Indian-Canadians gathered at the harbourfront on Lake Ontario shores in Canada to celebrate Diwali with music symphonies and a cruise ride.

Thousands of Canadian Indians gathered at the Harbourfront on the shores of Lake Ontario in Canada to celebrate Diwali with musical symphonies and a cruise.
The Canada India Foundation in association with the Sun Ray Group and the Indo-Canadian Arts Council organized the Diwali event in Toronto.
A fireworks event was also scheduled but was dropped after some suspicious explosive materials were found near the Toronto Island Airport.

The Indian Consul General in Toronto Apurva Srivastava presided over the ceremony.

“We were thinking of bringing Diwali to somewhere like Harbourfront and it happened. I'm really happy.
Celebrations take place on boats. It's a very unique idea."
Canada India Foundation Executive Directors Ritesh Malik and Satish Thakur welcomed the community.

“I feel so proud today just to see you all here, to see bhangra, dole tasha in downtown Toronto for Diwali celebrations. The community should be proud of this. In times to come, all the festivities are getting bigger and bigger,” said Mr. Malik. .

Mr Thakur said, “Diwali symbolizes the spirit of giving.
We are so proud that our community in Canada has always stood up to give back during Diwali.
There are many charitable events held on the occasion of Diwali.”


Hindu Forum Canada also mobilized the community to participate in this Diwali-dominant event.
The Indian flag was raised on a cruise as everyone chanted "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata ki gai".
