Recent Missile Launches Were "Nuclear Drills", Says North Korea: Report
The seven recent North Korean missile launches were all "tactical nuclear" drills, state media said Monday, which were personally overseen by leader Kim Jong Un.
State media reported Monday that the last seven North Korean missile launches were all "tactical nuclear" exercises, which were personally supervised by leader Kim Jong Un.
At a major party congress in January 2021, Kim outlined a five-year defense development plan, calling for the development of smaller, lighter nuclear weapons for "more tactical uses."
Seoul, Tokyo and Washington have intensified joint naval exercises in recent weeks, much to the chagrin of Pyongyang, which views it as an invasion drill and justifies its missile launches as necessary "countermeasures."
The Korean Central News Agency said that the lightning attack of the recent tests was in response to the joint exercises of those countries,
He added that the exercises were "as part of a simulation of an actual war."
The North Korean army units participating in "Operation Tactical Nuclear Bombs" conducted military exercises from September 25 to October 9 in order to check and assess the country's war deterrence and nuclear counterattack capability, which constitutes a dire warning to the enemies,
A report in the official Central News Agency said.
"Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of its Central Military Commission, immediately directed the military exercises," it added.
