US Sikh Family's Suspected Killer Charged With 4 Counts Of Murder

California authorities said the man involved in the kidnapping and murder of a Sikh family of Indian descent, including an eight-month-old infant, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one for each lost soul.

The Los Angeles Times quoted prosecutors as saying.

The Merced District Attorney's Office said in a press release that it will not make a decision this year on whether to continue applying the death penalty in the Salgado, 48-year-old case.

District Attorney Kimberly Lewis declined to comment on the case other than the charges against him.

Salgado is due to stand trial later on Monday.

Salgado was accused of the death of Jasdeep, his wife, Jaceline; The report said that their daughter and brother Amandeep Singh.

The investigation into the family's disappearance began on 3 October after police found Amandeep's truck on fire in the town of Winton.

When family members were unable to locate Amandeep or his brother and sister-in-law, or the couple's child, they reported the family missing.

The search led investigators from the Merced County Sheriff's Office to the family company, Unison Trucking,

Video surveillance showed one of the suspects kidnapping the family at gunpoint and driving them away in the truck.
