On Sunday, tech newsletter Platformer reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, that Twitter is considering charging a blue coveted check mark to verify the identity of an account holder.

Users will have to sign up for Twitter Blue at $4.99 a month or lose their "Verified" badges if the project continues,

Tesla Inc's CEO hasn't made a final decision and the project could still be scrapped but according to the Platformer, verification is likely to become part of Twitter Blue.

Twitter Blue launched in June last year as the platform's first subscription service to provide "exclusive access to premium features" on a monthly subscription basis including a feature to edit tweets.
