In fact, it causes people to be born without nails on their fingers or toes and prevents them from ever developing.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) of the US National Library of Medicine, anemia (absence of nails) is a very rare congenital anomaly. It may occur as a single feature or as part of a syndrome. Non-syndromic anemia has been reported either partially or completely.

Simple anonychia means the congenital absence of nails without the presence of any other major congenital anomaly, and it is extremely rare.
