Four Women To Run Post Office In Antarctica And Count Penguins: Report
Four women have been selected in order to run the most distant office in the world and count penguins in Antarctica.
Four women have been chosen to run the world's most remote office and count penguins in Antarctica, according to a BBC report.
Despite the record number of applicants, Claire Ballantine, Mary Hilton, Natalie Corbett,
Lucy Brozzoni has been chosen to perform the most unusual job of leading the team responsible for the historic site of Port Lockroy on Goodyear Island.
Port Lockroy, the post office that also served as a museum during the Covid-19 pandemic, has been closed. The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust announced the reopening of Port Lockroy,
And four open positions: CBS News reported base commander, postal manager, store manager, and wildlife monitor.
Following selection, Mrs. Ballantine will serve as post office manager, Mrs. Hilton will serve as wildlife watchdog, newlywed Mrs. Corbett as store manager and Mrs. Browzone as primary leader.
To reopen the bay for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak, the crew will travel 9,000 miles from the UK.
As reported by CBS News, the trust said, "The team will work for five months on Goodyear Island in the Antarctic Peninsula, giving up all the comforts of home."
The selected candidates will withstand sub-zero conditions and without access to running water and toilets.
They will have practically continuous daylight because the continent has six months of brightness in summer (October to February) and six months of darkness in winter (March to September).
According to CBS News,
The four candidates will live in close proximity to the Gentoo penguin colony, whose census is required as part of the fund's mission to monitor and protect the birds.
The Trust's responsibility is to protect the impact of British Antarctic wildlife and heritage. It also preserves the structures and assets of the island,
It tracks the number of ships and tourists and runs the post office and gift shop in the far south.
