2022 Nobel Prize For Literature Goes To French Author Annie Ernaux

French author Annie Ernaux, known for her deceptively simple novels drawing on personal experience of class and gender, won the Nobel Literature Prize on Thursday, the jury said.

French writer Annie Ernault, known for her deceptively simple novels inspired by personal experience of class and gender, won the Nobel Prize for Literature Thursday, the jury announced.

The 82-year-old Ms Erno was honored for "the courage and clinical ingenuity with which she revealed the roots, alienation and collective limitations of personal memory",

The jury said.

In an interview with Swedish TV immediately after the announcement, Ms Erno said it was a "very great honor" and "a great responsibility".

Her over 20 books, many of which have been school texts set in France for decades, offer one of the most accurate and insightful windows into the social life of modern France.

Above all, Mrs. Erno's crystal prose explored her own path from working-class girl to literary elite, taking a critical look at social structures and their complex emotions.

Her legacy is the determination in the French literary oyster, or, as she puts it, to offer an alternative to "unconditional admiration for the beautiful phrase".

The Swedish Academy noted that "Erno in her writings constantly and from different angles examines a life marked by extreme disparities in terms of gender, language and class."

"Her work is relentless and written in clear, clean language," she said.

“And when you reveal with great courage and clinical ingenuity the agony of the class experience, describing shame, humiliation, jealousy or inability to see who you are, you have achieved something impressive and lasting.”

Annie Erno said receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature was a "great honor" but also a "great responsibility".

"I consider this a great honor for me and at the same time a great responsibility, a responsibility entrusted to me," Ms Erno told public broadcaster SVT moments after the award was announced.

Last year, the award was given to Tanzanian-born novelist Abdul Razak Jarna, whose work focuses on the plight of refugees, exile, colonialism and racism.

Mrs. Erno will receive the Nobel Prize from King Carl XVI Gustaf at an official ceremony in Stockholm on December 10,

Anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel in 1896, who invented the prizes in his last will.

Ms. Erno, whose name has circulated in Nobel speculation for several years, is the 17th woman to win the prestigious award, among 119 winners of literature since the first Nobel was awarded in 1901.

The Swedish Academy has vowed in recent years to make the award more diverse, after the 2017-2018 #MeToo scandal left it in tatters.

Because of her selection of the male-dominated European Nobel Prize, however, she has repeatedly emphasized that her award is neither political nor subject to gender or racial quotas.

He insisted that his only criterion was the quality of the writer's body of work.
