Hundreds of people attended the funeral of four members of a Sikh family of Indian origin, including a baby girl, who were kidnapped and murdered by a man earlier this month in the US state of California.

Sikh family of four, 8-month-old Arohi Deri, 27-year-old mother Jaslyn Kaur, 36-year-old Jasdeep Singh and 39-year-old Sikh mother

Year-old Uncle Amandeep Singh was kidnapped at gunpoint on October 3 and murdered by Jesus Salgado, a disgruntled ex-employee of their transport company on October 5.

A funeral service for members of the Sikh family was held in Turlock, California, on Saturday.

"We're just here to show the family there right now,

They're not into this alone," said Manny Grewal, Stanislaus County Superintendent.

"Our society is much better than the actions of these two people who committed heinous crimes," Grewal was quoted as saying by KTLA-TV.

Friends of the victims said it would take a long time for the family and community to heal.

I don't know how the family will come out of this tragedy. It will be very difficult.

“We are here to support the family,” said Sanjeev Tiwari, a friend of the family.

The report said Saturday's memorial at Allen Mortuary was for family only, but community members are invited to show their support off duty.

The funeral took place according to Sikh tradition.

Merced County Vice President Matthew Cerrato said Salgado pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday.

He will return to court next month. His brother Alberto is accused as an accessory.

Salgado, who was arrested on October 6, is charged with four counts:

A degree murder with special circumstances of a family death of Indian origin.

He was also charged with arson and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
